Floridians Get Informed as Interest in New Assessment Grows

- State's transition to PARCC at the forefront of communication efforts -

Tallahassee, Fla., September 11, 2012 - A recent Google Analytics report* shows that Floridians are more interested in the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) than people from any other state in the nation. Florida ranked first with 16,783 visits to the PARCC website between August 20 and August 27, 2012, following the launch of new sample test items. Floridians represented approximately 18 percent of the online traffic as the website received more than 95,000 total visits during the same time period.

"I am incredibly pleased that Floridians are taking advantage of the user-friendly PARCC resources available online," said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. "Ensuring that our families receive up-to-date information about the state's transition to national standards and assessments is a priority for the Department. It is my greatest hope that our efforts to engage the education community on this topic will continue to grow."

The partnership unveiled the first set of sample test items for English language arts, literacy, and mathematics on August 20. The items illustrate how the critical content and practices found in the Common Core State Standards may appear on the assessments that will be given to students for the first time in 2014-15. Common Core State Standards teacher toolkits are also available to the state's educators. Florida, one of 45 states and three territories working to implement the Common Core Standards, is one of the partnership's 18 governing states leading the assessment development effort and serves as the fiscal agent for the partnership.
