Native American Heritage Month Ceremony

Tallahassee, FL, December 2, 2022 – Students and educators of the first ever Native American Heritage Month Essay Contest were announced by Governor Ron DeSantis and First Lady Casey DeSantis at their residence during their Native American Heritage Month reception ceremony.

The inaugural contest kicked off this year as a collaboration between the Seminole Tribe of Florida, Volunteer Florida and the Department of Education and focused on the theme of “Celebrating the Achievements of Native American Floridians.” Student Art Contest Winners won a $100 art supplies gift card and a one-year Florida State Park pass while student essay contest winners were awarded a two-year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by the Seminole Tribe of Florida. Florida educator winners received a $2,500 award for their excellence in the classroom and for their efforts teaching Native American History.
