State Board of Education Members
Daniel P. Foganholi Sr., a first-generation American born in Boston, MA to Brazilian immigrants, lives in Coral Springs, FL with his wife, Alyssa, and their two children, Daniel Jr. and Mila. In May 2022, he was appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis to the Broward County School Board, representing District 5, and later reappointed to represent District 1 in December 2022. During his tenure, Daniel along with the rest of the board helped lead the district to achieve an “A” rating after a decade of maintaining a “B” rating.
In 2023, Daniel was appointed to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, focusing on statewide school safety, and to the Florida Charter School Commission, which reviews new charter school applications in the state.
As a school board member, Daniel spearheaded initiatives to reinstate the National Day of Prayer, implement advanced security measures, and advocated for anti-bullying programs and student engagement through Esports. During his tenure, he also served on the Early Learning Coalition of Broward County, ensuring quality early education. A product of the Broward County school system, Daniel has been homeschooled, attended public, private and charter schools, and holds a bachelor’s degree in business. He has also earned professional certificates from Florida Atlantic University, Yale University, the University of London, and the University of Notre Dame.
Daniel actively volunteers at his church, coaches children’s soccer, and serves as Director of Legislative Affairs for the New Generations Children’s Ministry. He is also involved with BRAUSA, advocating for the Brazilian-American community in South Florida. His wife, Alyssa, also serves the community as a board member on the Children’s Services Council in Broward County.
