Mary Brogan Award Presented to Columbia County Educator

Tallahassee, Fla., July 15, 2016 – Today, Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart presented Denesha Pierre-Louis, a second grade teacher at Pinemount Elementary School in Columbia County, with the Mary Brogan “Excellence in Teaching” award and $1,000. 

“It is my pleasure to recognize Denesha Pierre-Louis as the Mary Brogan award winner,” said Commissioner Stewart. “I admire her commitment to engaging every student in the learning process and ensuring they are on the path to success.”

Denesha Pierre-Louis is inspired by her own life struggles and the realization that education was the key to future success. As a second grade teacher, she constantly strives to involve students, parents, families and the community in the learning process.

The Mary Brogan Excellence in Teaching award is named in honor of the late Mary Brogan, a third grade teacher and elementary principal, to recognize extraordinary educators who instill instill passion, joy and love of learning in their students. The award is presented to a teacher of the year district winner who goes above and beyond the classroom experience.
