New Videos on DOE YouTube Channel Highlights Florida Education Reform Efforts
~ Latest episodes of Education 360 feature informative discussions with independent stakeholders ~TALLAHASSEE - In an ongoing effort to communicate important changes to Florida's education system, the Florida Department of Education (DOE) today announced the addition of new episodes of the Education 360 video series to its recently launched YouTube channel. The new episodes feature short, straightforward discussions with independent stakeholders including teachers, principals and school district leaders who are directly involved in the education reform process. The major topics of the videos center on the new guidelines being developed to train future school leaders, fairly and accurately measuring student learning growth, and creating common materials that districts can use to gauge student knowledge in hard-to-measure subject areas.
"Florida has been ahead of the curve when it comes to implementing bold strategies to improve the quality of our education system, and it's important that Floridians stay informed about the changes that lie ahead," said Education Commissioner John L. Winn. "This new content presents brief updates on these changes in a casual, viewer-friendly manner, and I encourage interested stakeholders to tune in so they can stay engaged in the conversation."
Each Education 360 episode is hosted by DOE's Teacher Liaison Kelly Seay who sits down with the individuals participating in these reform efforts to get updates on their work. The individuals featured in this latest round of episodes include the following:
Education 360: Teacher and Leader Preparation Implementation Committee (TLPIC) (Part 1 and Part 2)- Dr. Elisa Calabrese, an Assistant Superintendent in Broward County
- James Griffin, Florida's 2011 Principal of the Year
- Jasmine Ulmer, a Union County teacher
- Martha McCormick-Watson, an Orange County teacher
- Pam Stewart, a Deputy Superintendent in St. John's County
- Sandi Acosta, a Miami-Dade County teacher
- Sam Foerster, an Associate Superintendent in Putnam County
- John Letellier, a Marion County teacher
- Jim Yancey, Superintendent of Marion County Public Schools
