Florida's Lieutentant Governor Visits Middleburg High School
-Information Technology students share their excitement for education-Tallahassee - As part of her efforts to encourage STEM education (science, technology, engineering and math), Florida's Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll, along with Florida Department of Education K-12 Chancellor Pam Stewart and Career and Adult Education Chancellor Rod Duckworth, met with students enrolled in the Information Technology Career and Professional Education (CAPE) Academy at Middleburg High School in Clay County. Graduates of the CAPE Academy now have high-tech jobs with Blue Cross & Blue Shield, AT&T, the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the Clay County School District, the United States Military, and more.
Since 2009, the graduates of the Middleburg High School Information Technology Academy have earned CISCO industry certifications, which are industry standards in the field of information technology. These certifications allow students to obtain the necessary skills to go directly into the workforce and earn college credit that can articulate into other technology fields.
"It is a priority in our state to prepare our students for careers in the field of science, technology, engineering and math. This CISCO industry certification program aligns perfectly with our core mission to educate our students so they can compete globally in the field of technology," said Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll.
Clay County Schools Superintendent Ben Wortham said, "We are excited to welcome the Lt. Governor back to Clay County to observe the success of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) academies. I believe our rigorous CTE programs and career academies offer a solid foundation of academic skills and place students in a setting where they are excited to learn. We are proud of the Middleburg High School IT academy and the students earning industry certifications that lead to college credit and prepare them for rewarding careers in the IT industry."
