Department of Education Staff to Participate in National Conference for Latino Elected and Appointed Officials

Tallahassee, Fla., June 21, 2012 - The Florida Department of Education's Director of Research and Evaluation in Educator Performance, Juan Copa, will participate in a panel discussion tomorrow at the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Annual Conference in Orlando. The discussion will highlight state longitudinal data systems that are available and how they can help inform policy decisions when allocating scarce resources. He will be joined by Ms. Lyndsay Pinkus, Director of National and Federal Policy Initiatives for the Data Quality Campaign, and Mr. David Steele, Chief Information and Technology Officer and Project Director of the Empowering Effective Teachers Grant for Hillsborough County Schools.

The NALEO Annual Conference presents a unique opportunity for elected officials to meet with their colleagues at all levels of government, and is known for being a venue for the meaningful exchange of ideas and solutions to today's most pressing issues. The conference offers five distinct policy tracks that focus on education, health, financial empowerment, civic and political participation, and broadband adoption.
