Scholarship Funds Distributed to Florida Colleges

- Helios Education Foundation, Florida Blue and Bank of America invest in Florida's students -

Tallahassee, Fla., August 9, 2012 - Florida College System Chancellor Randy Hanna today announced the distribution of more than $825,000 in scholarship funds to the 28 college system foundations. The scholarships are aimed at relieving the nursing shortage and helping students who are the first in their family to attend college.

"The scholarship endowment allows us to provide an opportunity for college students in nursing and allied health programs and first generation students to complete their education without taking out costly loans." said Chancellor Hanna. "That ultimately helps us meet the workforce needs in Florida without burdening the student with future loan payments."

The scholarships are made possible through endowments from the Helios Education Foundation, Florida Blue, and Bank of America, and are awarded annually by the Florida College System Foundation to all of the 28 system colleges.

Students eligible to apply for the scholarship include Florida residents who are accepted and enrolled in a nursing or allied health program at a Florida college or students who are the first in their family to attend college. Interested students from culturally diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups are encouraged to visit their local college's foundation office to find out more and apply for the scholarships.
