Florida Celebrates Career and Technical Education on the Hill

- In recognition of Career and Technical Education Month, students meet at Florida's Capitol to share career and technical education success stories -

Tallahassee, Fla., February 11, 2013 - More than 200 students and teachers from more than 50 high schools, technical centers, state colleges and state career and technical student organizations gathered at the state Capitol today to display the importance of career and technical education programs. The 5th Annual CTE Day on the Hill gave students the opportunity to show what they have learned in the classroom and how CTE programs are preparing them for competitive job markets.

"Career and Technical Education programs give our Florida students more options to help them get a head start on college or a career," said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. "I'm glad to see so many of our students taking advantage of these programs to help them find good paying jobs in demanding careers. This is another way Florida provides students with the best education possible."

At the event, many students demonstrated their career knowledge in areas including criminal justice, fashion, applied robotics and massage therapy. A number of schools set up booths to highlight the variety of programs offered across the state.

"As interest grows in Florida's CTE programs, so too do the number of programs we are able to offer students," said Career and Adult Education Chancellor Rod Duckworth. "Giving students the opportunity to earn industry certification and credit in the nearly 300 different programs ensures more of them will go on to college or land a job in a great career - that's something every student deserves."

CTE programs are available at secondary schools in all 67 Florida school districts, all 28 colleges in The Florida College System and at 47 technical centers within the state. To learn about specific programs, visit Career and Adult Education.
