Palm Beach Area School Districts Show Improvement on End-of-Course Assessments

Tallahassee, Fla., June 16, 2014 - Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart today recognized school districts in the Palm Beach area for improved student performance on state end-of-course (EOC) assessments in Algebra 1, Geometry, Biology 1 and U.S. History.

"I am so appreciative of Florida's teachers and school leaders who have worked incredibly hard this year to improve student performance," said Commissioner Stewart. "Their increased focus and dedication will ensure Florida's students are prepared for success in college, a career and in life."

  • Indian River County is one of 13 school districts in the state that improved in all four assessment areas announced today, including a four percentage-point increase in Geometry.
  • Palm Beach County also improved in all four assessment areas announced today, moving up 12 percentage points in U.S. History and six percentage points in Geometry.
  • St. Lucie County is also one of 13 school districts that improved in all four assessment areas announced today, jumping 10 percentage points in Algebra 1, eight percentage points in U.S. History and seven percentage points in Geometry

Overall, statewide student achievement improved in all of the EOC assessment areas released today. Compared to last year, students improved in U.S. History by 10 percentage points, followed by a two percentage point increase in Biology 1 and a one percentage point increase in both Algebra 1 and Geometry.

The Algebra 1 EOC was administered for the first time in spring 2011, the Biology 1 and Geometry EOCs were first administered in spring 2012 and the U.S. History EOC was administered for the first time in spring 2013. More information about EOCs can be found at Florida End-of-Course Assessments.
