Department of Education and Duval County Public Schools to Host Community Engagement Meeting

The Florida Department of Education, in partnership with Duval County Public Schools, will host a community engagement meeting on Monday at Andrew Jackson High School. Parents, community leaders and other supporters of Northshore Elementary, Andrew Jackson High School, Jean Ribault High School and William M. Raines High School are encouraged to participate in this opportunity to learn how the local community can get involved in helping these schools increase student achievement.

The event will feature Dr. Ronald Ferguson with the Achievement Gap Initiative at Harvard University where he is a Senior Lecturer in Education Public Policy at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the Harvard Kennedy School. Dr. Ferguson's research focuses on racial achievement gaps and he will share his insights with the community members in attendance.

This community engagement event is being held as part of the Intervene status waiver granted for these schools during the July 19, 2011, State Board of Education meeting.
