State Board of Education Chair to Visit Tampa Charter School

Tallahassee, Fla. - Continuing the week-long celebration of National Charter School Week, State Board of Education Chair Kathleen Shanahan will visit a Tampa charter school tomorrow. She will be joined by Michael Kooi, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Education's Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice.

Charter schools are independent public schools created on the basis of an agreement between a group of school organizers and a sponsoring school district. Each is unique in their educational approach and has their own governing board that is responsible for setting policies and procedures.
