Department of Education Hosting Public Meetings

~ Opportunity for the public to provide input on K-12 standards ~

Tallahassee, Fla., October 16, 2013 - The Florida Department of Education is hosting public meetings this week on the state's mathematics and English language arts (ELA) standards in accordance with Governor Scott's Governor Scott's executive order (PDF). The first public meeting was yesterday in Tampa; two additional meetings are scheduled, one tonight in Davie and one tomorrow in Tallahassee.

Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart will be available tonight prior to the meeting in Davie. Interested media need to register in advance by contacting the Department of Education's communications office via email to or by calling 850-245-0413.

At the public meetings, participants will fill out speaker cards to ensure the maximum number of participants have an opportunity to make public comment. Participants can also provide their feedback via hard copy. The meetings will be webcast live at www.thefloridachannel.org.

Individuals who are unable to attend the public meetings are encouraged to submit their feedback via email or on the designated website below. Each response will be reviewed and considered by the department along with input from the public meetings.
