Daytona State College Recognized as National Leader in Online Bachelor's Degree Programs
Tallahassee, Fla., January 15, 2013 - Today, U.S. News & World Report released its rankings of the best online bachelor's degree programs in the country. Daytona State College - a member institution of the Florida College System - landed at the top of the list with a number two ranking.
"The Florida College System has a rich history of responding to community needs and providing education and training to Floridians," said Randy Hanna, chancellor of the Florida College System. "Online education has become an important part of our system as we continually seek innovative ways to expand access and meet workforce demands. We are proud of Daytona State College's commitment to quality, convenience, and affordability through its online bachelor's programs."
The rankings, which are new for U.S. News & World Report, show how online education has become an integral part of higher education delivery systems. U.S. News & World Report calculated the rankings using data collected from 237 regionally accredited for-profit, private, and public institutions with online bachelor's degree programs. Student engagement, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology were among the categories used to score the institutions.
Daytona State College began offering online bachelor's degree programs in 2006. Currently, the college offers seven bachelor's degrees - all of which can be completed partially or entirely online - in fields like business, education, and engineering technology. According to the Daytona State College Office of Institutional Research Baccalaureate Alumni Survey, 76 percent of Daytona State graduates found full-time employment within three months or less upon graduating. More than 1,400 students pursuing bachelor's degrees were enrolled in online courses at the college this year.
