Florida Colleges Reaffirm Commitment to Transfer Opportunities for Students
- Partnership promotes smooth, seamless transfer for Florida College System students -Tallahassee, Fla., February 11, 2013 -The Florida College System (FCS) has renewed its partnership with the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida (ICUF) for the 2+2 agreement, which allows students to complete their two-year associate degree then transfer to the upper division of a bachelor's degree program without losing credits.
"The Independent College and Universities of Florida initiated this agreement with the Florida College System in 1992. On its 21st anniversary, we want to recognize the importance of transfer opportunities and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the ideal of cooperation between public and independent sectors of postsecondary education," said Randy Hanna, chancellor of the Florida College System.
As the primary access point to undergraduate education in Florida, the 28 institutions in the Florida College System offer a wide array of programs to serve individuals, communities, and the state with low-cost, high-quality education opportunities.
Under the agreement, FCS students who earn an Associate in Arts (AA) degree are offered provisions that guarantee smooth, seamless transfer to ICUF institutions. Of the 24,472 transfer students enrolled in ICUF institutions in fall 2011, 8,738 - or 36 percent - transferred from an FCS institution. In fact, ICUF institutions admitted more than 95 percent of FCS AA transfer students into the undergraduate program of their choice.
"I am pleased to reaffirm our commitment to Florida's students through signing the 2+2 Articulation Agreement," said Dr. Ed Moore, president of ICUF. "Our valuable partnership with the Florida College System highlights our shared educational priorities. Florida is a national leader in the development of continuing education programs, like 2+2, and students in the Sunshine State will continue to benefit from our high-quality postsecondary system for years to come."
ICUF is an association of 31 private, not-for-profit educational institutions. Serving more than 153,000 students at 127 sites around Florida, these colleges and universities award 26 percent of Florida's bachelor degrees and one-third of all bachelor's and advanced degrees.
"Renewing this agreement is evidence of the Florida College System's and the Independent College and Universities of Florida's shared commitment to promoting access and opportunity to Florida students," added Chancellor Hanna. "We expect this agreement will continue to serve Floridians for the next 20 years and beyond."
