Governor Scott Continues Teacher Pay Raise Pep Rally Tour

Orlando, Fla. - Governor Rick Scott today continued his Teacher Pay Raise Pep Rally Tour celebrating $480 million for teacher pay raises at Ocoee Middle School in Orange County.

Governor Rick Scott said, "Our students have been achieving great success which directly reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers. As we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Day today, I cannot think of a better way to show our appreciation then to honor our teachers with a well deserved pay raise. The $480 million that is being allocated towards teacher pay raises is a huge victory for Florida families, teachers and students."

The $480 million in teacher pay raises allows districts the flexibility to develop their own plan to award the greatest number of teachers the largest teacher pay raise possible, in coordination with their collective bargaining agreements.

He has recognized the critical role educators play in the lives of our students and understands the need for attracting and retaining the nation's best teachers to ensure Florida's future generations are well prepared for college, careers and life."

Orange County Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins said, "Governor Rick Scott has been extremely supportive of teachers. He understands the important work Florida's teachers perform every day in the classroom and worked diligently to reward these dedicated professionals. Orange County teachers are on the front line of preparing our students for college and career and are deserving of a pay raise."

Ocoee Middle School Assistant Principal Noreen Hoffman said, "It is an exciting day at Ocoee Middle School to have Governor Rick Scott here to celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Day. We appreciate his leadership and support for teachers and students."

Ocoee Middle School Teacher of the Year Maurio Medley said, "It is an honor to have Governor Scott visit us on National Teacher Appreciation Day and I am grateful for his commitment to Florida's teachers."
