More than 35 Districts have Approved Gov. Scott's Teacher Pay Raises
~ Six additional school boards approve plans this week ~Tallahassee, Fla., November 14, 2013 - Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart today praised the Bay, Charlotte, Duval, Liberty, Polk and Suwannee School Boards for approving teacher raises championed by Governor Rick Scott. The governor pledged $480 million during the 2013 legislative session to reward teachers and thank them for their nationally-recognized efforts to raise student achievement. The boards approved the plans earlier this week.
"My thanks to these school boards for their support of Governor Scott's priority - to reward teachers for their outstanding work in raising student achievement," said Commissioner Stewart. "Governor Scott understands that teachers deserve to be rewarded for their efforts in helping students succeed and recognizes that is an excellent investment in Florida's future."
The six counties join school boards around the state that have already approved teacher raise plans. Those districts include Alachua, Baker, Calhoun, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Dixie, Escambia, Flagler, Gulf, Hendry, Highlands, Hillsborough, Holmes, Jackson, Lee, Leon, Madison, Manatee, Miami Dade, Okaloosa, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, St. Lucie, Sarasota, Sumter, Taylor, Union, Volusia and Wakulla.
"I applaud the school districts that made it a priority to approve their teacher raises early in the fiscal year," continued Commissioner Stewart, "Because of their swift action, their teachers will soon see, or have already seen, a salary increase in their paycheck."
