Governor Rick Scott and Cabinet Issue Resolution Recognizing Florida’s 2016 Teachers of the Year

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, during a meeting of the Florida Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott and the Cabinet of the State of Florida issued a resolution honoring Florida’s 2016 Teachers of the Year and honored teachers in the state for their hard work and dedication to the students of Florida. Florida’s 2016 Teachers of the Year resolution recognizes their commitment and effective teaching that has led to student success.  

Governor Scott said, “Today, I am proud to recognize Florida’s incredible teachers who work hard every day and are dedicated to helping our students reach their goals. Florida’s Teachers of the Year represent the top educators in our state who are committed to positively impacting our students’ education in the classroom. I applaud these educators for all they do for Florida students.”

Commissioner Pam Stewart said, “Florida’s Teachers of the Year exemplify the great talent found in classrooms throughout the state. I am grateful to Governor Scott for supporting our educators, who are tasked with ensuring all students are successful and prepared for college, career and life.”

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Florida’s Teachers of the Year represent the top educators in the state, demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and life-long learning, and make an exceptional contribution to their students’ lives, schools, and local communities; and

WHEREAS, Students across our state benefit from the inspiration and encouragement they receive in the classroom to take on new challenges and reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, Florida’s teachers remain committed to enhancing communication with students and families; embracing professional development to promote teaching excellence, serving as role models for the community of educators; and

WHEREAS, In 2015 Florida’s fourth graders outperformed the nation in both reading and math, indicating Florida’s teachers demonstrate a superior ability to foster excellence in education and contribute to the continuous improvement of student achievement and their learning environment; and

WHEREAS, Florida teachers maintain a record of superior teacher performance as evidenced by gains in student learning, annual performance assessments, and nation-wide recognition; and

WHEREAS, Teachers of the Year demonstrate a commitment to creating a climate of caring and respect conducive to effective teaching and student performance, which leads to future success in college and careers.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida recognize the commitment and effort all of Florida’s teachers offer our students and families.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF the Governor and Cabinet of the State of Florida have hereunto subscribed their names and have caused the Official Seal of the State of Florida to be hereunto affixed in the City of Tallahassee on this 25th day of October, 2016.
