Governor Scott Recognizes Seven Educators with the Governor’s Shine Award

Tallahassee, Fla., – Today, during a meeting of Florida’s Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott recognized seven outstanding educators with the Governor’s Shine Award. The Shine Award is presented to teachers and administrators in Florida who make significant contributions to the field of education. Many of the recipients are members of the High Impact Teacher Corps, a project between the Florida Department of Education and the New Teacher Center, a nationally recognized leader in teacher development, to help improve student outcomes across all schools.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I applaud these teachers for their dedication to making sure every student has the opportunity to get a good education and be prepared for the future. Their hard work and commitment to Florida’s children has helped improve student achievement in their classrooms, and I am honored to recognize their success with the Governor’s Shine Award today.”

The following educators were awarded the Governor’s Shine Award:

Marlene Johnson, Pinellas County – Johnson is an English teacher at Gibbs High School. She was the Gibbs High School Educator of the Year in 2014 and recipient of the 2014 Men and Women of Distinction Award. 

Michael Kennedy, Escambia County – Kennedy is an eighth grade math teacher at Woodham Middle School. He is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps.    

Patrick McMahon, Pinellas County – McMahon is a fifth grade teacher at Bear Creek Elementary School. He is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps and was the 2007 Jack R. Lamb Teacher of the Year Nominee.

Jessica McMichen, Marion County – McMichen is a fifth grade teacher at Fessenden Elementary School. She is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps.

Joseph Richardson, Jr., St. Lucie County – Richardson is a fifth grade math and science teacher at St. Lucie Elementary School. He is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps.

Dustin Rucker, Madison County – Rucker is a middle school math teacher at Madison County Central School. He serves as the school’s athletic director, head baseball coach and is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps.

Lisa Turini, Pinellas County – Turini is a seventh grade language arts teacher at Azalea Middle School. She is a member of the High Impact Teacher Corps.
