Florida College System Announces the 2016 All-Florida Academic Team

Tallahassee, Fla., March 8, 2016 – The Florida College System is pleased to announce the members of the 2016 All-Florida Academic Team. This remarkable group of students are being honored for their academic achievement, leadership and service to the community.

In nominating students for the All-Florida Academic Team, colleges considered the following criteria:

  • Participation in honors programs;
  • Membership in, and awards received from, academic or honors organizations;
  • Awards and honors received for academic and leadership accomplishments;
  • Academic enrichment achieved through study, internships and cultural experiences

“I’m pleased to congratulate each of these high achieving students who earned a place on the All-Florida Academic Team,” said Division of Florida Colleges Chancellor Madeline Pumariega. “Their academic achievements coupled with their dedication to leadership and service inside and outside the classroom serve as a model for Florida College System students across our great state of Florida. I look forward to celebrating their future successes as they pursue a career.”

“I am very proud of these students for their academic achievements that led to being named to the All-Florida Academic Team,” said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. “Florida colleges are known throughout the nation for their educational excellence, and I am pleased they have prepared these students for success now and in the future.”

Students were nominated by their respective colleges to the All-USA Academic Team competition sponsored by USA Today and the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society. In addition, PTK also distinguishes the top 30 students of each class by selecting them to the All-Florida First Team based on ratings in competition throughout the state.

In conjunction with PTK, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation annually sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team to recognize high-achieving college students who demonstrate academic excellence combined with leadership and service that extends their education beyond the classroom. Coca-Cola also honors one student from each state who possesses the highest application score in his or her class and awards them with a scholarship as a New Century Scholar.

The 2016 All-Florida First Team, Coca-Cola Scholarship recipients and the New Century Scholar will be announced during Florida College System Month in April. The 2016 All-Florida Academic Team is sponsored by the Florida Lottery.

The members of the 2016 All-Florida Academic Team will be recognized at an awards ceremony on April 21, 2016, at the Embassy Suites USF, Tampa. To view full listing of student team members, visit 2016 All-Florida Academic Team.
