Daytona State College Student Austin Albro Named First Winner of Chancellor’s Clark Maxwell Scholar Student of the Month

Tallahassee, Fla., January 29, 2016 – Today, Chancellor Madeline Pumariega of the Florida College System announced Austin Albro as the first winner of the Chancellor’s Clark Maxwell Scholar Student of the Month. A senior honors student at Daytona State College studying Supervision and Management, Austin was selected for his academic achievements, leadership and commitment to his community and Florida. 

“I am proud to present this award to Austin and grateful to the Maxwell family for establishing this fund to aid Florida College System students in their higher education goals,” said Pumariega. “As a student leader on campus serving as the Student Government Association President and an active member of the community working with Easter Seals, One Voice Volusia and the 4 The Kids Foundation, Austin clearly demonstrates his commitment to  Daytona State College and Volusia County.”

“We are truly honored and pleased that the first Chancellor's Clark Maxwell Scholar Student of the Month has been given in our father's name to Austin,” said Clark Maxwell III speaking on behalf of the Maxwell family. “Our dad left behind a legacy of educational excellence and service to others and Austin exemplifies many of the same characteristics. He has accomplished so much in such a short period of time and is well deserving of this award.”

About the Clark Maxwell Scholar Student of the Month Award

A native of Winter Park, Clark Maxwell Jr. began his political career in 1965 with his election to the Brevard County School Board where he served as chairman for seven years. He went on to serve in the Florida House of Representatives and Florida Senate from 1974-1984, focusing on finance and education reform and left a lasting legacy in Brevard County and throughout the state. Maxwell served as Chancellor of the Florida College System from 1984 until his retirement in 1997. Recipients of the Chancellor’s Clark Maxwell Scholar Student of the Month Award receive $150 towards tuition or textbooks. For more information about the award, visit Clark Maxwell Scholar Award.
