State Board of Education Votes to Approve Florida Keys Community College First Bachelor’s Degree

Tallahassee, Fla., January 7, 2016 – During the State Board of Education meeting on Wednesday in Tallahassee, the State Board of Education voted unanimously to approve Florida Keys Community College (FKCC) Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management. This is the first four year degree offered by Florida Keys Community College.

Madeline Pumariega, Chancellor of the Florida College System said, “I am very excited about the State Board of Education’s approval to allow Florida Keys Community College to begin offering the Bachelor of Science degree in Supervision and Management, providing an affordable option close to home for those looking to work in the over 1,000 job openings in Monroe County that require management and supervision skills.”

“Today is unquestionably a historic moment for the Florida Keys and FKCC, the only institution of higher education to call the Keys home for over 50 years,” noted FKCC President Dr. Jonathan Gueverra. “The approval of this first baccalaureate program for FKCC is a recognition by our statewide leaders that our residents and businesses need to have access to four-year degrees—an opportunity that can be taken for granted in other parts of the state.”

Florida Keys Community College is now accepting applications to the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management.  The application can be downloaded at www.fkcc.edu/apply-now/.
