Governor Scott Proclaims January 4-8 as Florida First Responder Appreciation Week

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott issued a proclamation recognizing January 4-8 as Florida First Responder Appreciation Week. Read Governor Scott’s proclamation.

Governor Rick Scott said, “Florida’s crime rate is at a 44 year low because of the hard work of our law enforcement officers and first responders who put themselves at risk every day and sacrifice their own lives to protect others. I encourage all Florida students and families to recognize First Responders Appreciation Week.”

Commissioner Pam Stewart said, “First responders play a critical role in keeping our communities safe, and I want especially to acknowledge those who work in our state’s schools and colleges. In addition to providing day-to-day assistance, first responders are always on hand to step up in the event of an emergency. I hope that all of our state’s educators and parents will use this week as a chance to remind students of all ages about the value of first responders, in and out of our state’s schools.”

Florida College System Chancellor Madeline Pumariega said, “When students enter college campuses, they should be able to learn without being distracted by the fear of violence, but, in recent years, college campuses around the nation have experienced unimaginable tragedy. Fortunately, the brave and quick action of first responders on the scene may have prevented more tragedy. These devastating events underscore the importance of first responders and the importance in thanking our state’s first responders, so many of whom are alumni of the Florida College System.”;
