Department of Education Thanks Business Partners for Supporting Florida’s Teachers
~ Generous sponsor contributions make celebration of Florida’s top teachers possible ~

Tallahassee, Fla., July 10, 2015 – Last night, Governor Rick Scott announced Diane McKee as the 2016 Florida Department of Education/Macy’s Teacher of the Year. McKee took home the top honor at last night’s gala, the culmination of annual activities to recognize all of Florida’s district teachers of the year.

Thanks to generous contributions from business partners, Florida’s top teachers were treated to a four-day retreat with opportunities to network, learn and celebrate with colleagues and education leaders.

“Teachers play a critical role in molding our state’s future leaders and the teachers who participated in this week’s activities were recognized by their districts for their outstanding work in and out of the classroom,” said Commissioner of Education Pam Stewart. “We are very appreciative of these businesses who have demonstrated their commitment to Florida’s students by helping celebrate their hard-working teachers. I would especially like to recognize Macy’s for their continued efforts on making this event a success.”

Sponsor organizations were represented at this week’s events by top executives who expressed their appreciation and commitment to educational excellence in Florida. Their contributions made possible activities and gifts such as a welcome reception, teacher roundtable, technology products, finalist rings and complimentary tickets.
