More Education Leaders Applaud Governor Scott’s “Keep Florida Working” Budget

Tallahassee, Fla., June 23, 2015 – More education leaders throughout the state have applauded Governor Scott’s “Keep Florida Working” Budget that provides historic levels of education funding.

Gary Chartrand, State Board of Education Member, said, “I have always been passionate about education because I believe it levels the playing field, enabling all Floridians a better chance at achieving their version of the American Dream. Our state’s students have demonstrated their ability to work hard and reach their goals, which has resulted in Florida being ranked among the top of the nation for student achievement. I applaud Governor Scott for recognizing the need to stay on this positive track and taking action to make certain Florida’s students are prepared.”

Dixie County Schools Superintendent Mark A. Rains said, “In Dixie County, we work hard each and every day to help our students develop the skills they need to prosper. To achieve that goal, it is crucial that our teachers have adequate resources and we are grateful that Governor Scott advocated for Florida’s students. Between the increased per-pupil funding, historic education budget and $13.8 million just for Dixie County, I am confident our students will be poised to reach even greater heights.”

University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft said, “I would like to thank Governor Scott for approving the funding for two major capital projects that will improve the educational experiences of University of South Florida System students and the economic vitality of the Tampa Bay region for years to come. Thanks to the hard work of our local legislators, and with Governor Scott’s approval today, USF St. Petersburg will complete the construction of its new Kate Tiedemann College of Business facility in time for the Fall 2016 semester and USF will embark on its next major transformative project, the USF Health in downtown Tampa initiative.”
