School Environmental Safety Incident Report (SESIR) Workgroup
About
This Workgroup was initially created by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas (MSD) High School Public Safety Commission at their August 2, 2022 meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, Chair Gualtieri proposed 3 workgroups to work on issues of concern: Active Assailant, Threat Assessment and SESIR, and to report back at the MSD Commission’s November, 2022 meeting (video here, beginning at 3:09:35).
Subsequently, the Statewide Grand Jury’s Final Report was released on August 19, 2022, highlighting concerns surrounding inaccurate reporting of SESIR incidents, “whether as an inadvertent consequence of misguided policies or as a direct result of intentional malfeasance”. A result of the discrepancies brought forth within this report, the Florida Department of Education determined a need to swiftly address the identified issues and resolve to ensure districts report accurately and consistently across the state.
Due to the similar and overlapping calls to action, the SESIR Workgroup has been tasked to address the needs of both the MSD Commission and FDOE in response to the Statewide Grand Jury Report.
