National & International Assessments
Florida Participation in National and International Assessments
National and international assessments provide us with data to evaluate how well Florida’s students are doing in a variety of subjects at different ages and grade levels. Participation in national assessments provides a basis for comparing the knowledge and skills of Florida’s students with students in other states/jurisdictions and with the nation as a whole. International assessments allow us the unique opportunity to compare the performance of students in the United States to the performance of students in other countries around the world.
In the State of Florida, participation in national and international assessments is mandated by Section 1008.22(2), Florida Statutes. Individual student participation in the assessments is voluntary, and parents can choose to have their child(ren) not participate, as stipulated in the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (P.L. 107-110).
